Of the many reasons we're big fans of the Honda Civic, the fact that it comes with the Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistance technologies as a standard feature. While others may be charmed by trying to decide which of the sedan, coupe, or hatchback bodies is right for their needs, and then which trim level to choose, we like to focus on the fact that we're well-protected while we're on the West Virginia roads and highways.

There are four major technologies that work together within Honda Sensing®, so we thought we'd detail what each does for you and your family:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System™: this helps your Honda Civic stop by automatically applying pressure to the brakes when it senses that an unavoidable collision is imminent
  • Road Departure Mitigation System: this detects when you're crossing out of your lane without signaling intent, and provides gentle steering assistance to guide you back into your lane -- or applies the brakes to prevent you from leaving the road completely
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow: with this feature, you can follow a detected vehicle ahead of you at a specific interval; if the lead vehicle slows or stops, ACC responds in a like manner
  • Lane Keeping Assist System: this system makes gentle adjustments to your vehicle's steering to keep you centered in your lane, making highway driving a little easier
