Honda calls its 2016 HR-V a multidimensional vehicle and promises "fun-to-drive performance and unmatched interior spaciousness and cabin versatility," it said in a statement. The HR-V's profile strikes a sportier, coupe-like stance with strong horizontal lines, a swooping roof line and concealed rear door handles. Up front, a large two-tier grille with honeycomb cut-outs and angular headlights accent its sportiness.

Under the HR-V's Hood

Ride quality is remarkably refined. In characteristic Honda fashion, suspension tuning is on the firm side, but the setup admirably damps bigger bumps. The Renegade and Trax have similarly well-tuned suspensions. The HR-V borrows its power-train from the Civic; the 1.8-liter four-cylinder makes 138 horsepower in the HR-V, down from the Civic's 143 horsepower. In the HR-V, it's mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission; two-wheel drive or all-wheel drive are available.

Design of Honda HR-V

The HR-V seats five passengers, and Honda says its spacious and versatile interior is made possible by the crossover's center-mounted fuel tank; it adds additional passenger room, like in the Fit. Also borrowed from the Fit, the HR-V uses Honda's Magic Seat front passenger seat, which can fold completely flat for increased storage space.

Active safety features like forward collision warning, blind spot warning and lane departure warning are becoming increasingly available on affordable models, the Renegade included, which is why it's surprising that none of these features are offered on the HR-V. In addition to the available LaneWatch camera, a backup camera is standard. Give us a call today if you would like more information on the 2016 Honda HR-V
