New 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid at URSE Honda for Bridgeport, WV

The 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid is a powerful midsize hybrid sedan. It directs 3 modes of operation when driving.  An integral part of that system being able to output 212-hp is an advanced two-motor hybrid powertrain. Conserving resources further in a smart fashion, the 2017 Accord Hybrid adopts from last year's extensive upgrades for the non-hybrid Accord, including new sleek styling, active drive tuning and improved seen and unseen technology. There is a re-styled aluminum hood, an added rear deck spoiler, a remote engine start, Honda-Link assist, Honda Sensing, and front/rear parking sensors on the Touring model, for starters. The revised gasoline-electric powertrain also achieves an additional 16-hp since its initial year debut. Impressively, it has a literally smaller battery pack for improved trunk space (yet is still just as powerful).

Under the Accord Hybrid's Hood

People these days tend to either have no idea how this system works or you are very familiar with hybrids. Basically the trunk has a lithium-ion battery pack, which feeds a pair of electric motors, who then, as needed, bring in a 2.0-liter i-VTEC Atkinson Cycle engine for the heavier load vehicle processes. Honda made all of this engine/motor/battery switching happen seamlessly without you needing to do anything but drive the car as you would any other- no pedal-adjusting techniques or mode activations needed! Total system output is 212 horsepower, and it's delivered to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which removes the need for a conventional mechanical transmission. Improvements also occur on other handling-oriented parts of the Accord Hybrid as well, including high body rigidity, new high-performance, amplitude-reactive dampers and an electric power steering system that's been delightfully re-tuned. There is also new Straight Driving Assist technology, which assists the driver on convex or strongly-slanted road types.

Design of Honda Accord Hybrid

It's available in three trims - the Hybrid, Hybrid EX-L and the Hybrid Touring. There are a lot of standard feature sets and also available ones, including the Honda Sensing suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies. And on the EX-L and touring trims, there is Honda's newest Display Audio touchscreen interface which has both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Options for the 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid, depending on model/trim, include remote engine start, front and rear parking sensors, rain sensing wipers, heated rear seats and auto high-beam headlights. The Accord Hybrid is heavily re-designed partly due to incorporating changes made to last year's gas-only Accords. A sharp and complex front fascia replaces the wrap-around bumper, and has standard LED fog lights nested within it. The Accord Hybrid also gets brushed-up exterior color choices with 5 new colors, out of 8 total. Standard equipment for the base Hybrid includes 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, a rearview camera and a six-speaker sound system with a USB media interface, LED taillights, keyless ignition and entry, and an auxiliary audio jack. Move up to the EX-L and you'll get a four-way power front passenger seat, heated front seats, leather upholstery, an additional 7-inch touchscreen, and smartphone integration. The Touring model adds LED headlights, a sunroof, and front/rear parking sensors, among other cool additions.

What is in the "Honda Sensing" safety technology, exactly?

All six of these are included: the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

Conclusions

There is a lot of design and proven safety features in the 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid, starting with new ultra-high-strength door rings, a multi-angle rearview camera, and an expanded view driver's mirror, four-channel anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Brake Assist and Hill Start Assist, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with Traction Control, dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags, driver and front passenger side airbags and side-curtain, and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The Honda Sensing safety feature is standard as well with 6 leading preventative systems helping drivers stay safe on the road. Really this sedan has it all, if you reflect on it for a moment: grand-slam fuel-efficiency, a very strong engine, 4-doors, advanced connectivity tech, robust safety aids, and even sporty tuning. Maybe now is the time to head to Urse Honda and experience the thrill of the future in the form of the 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid!
